Panama has been one of the top countries to retire for a long time. It offers the perfect combination of nature and a modern lifestyle, with its stunning beaches, dense rainforests, and cosmopolitan capital city. Panama is a popular destination for retirees because of its affordable cost of living, tropical beauty, its discount program for retirees, and its active expat community.

Panama’s growing expat community gives you the opportunity to connect with people from all around the world, learn from their experiences, engage in an array of activities with like-minded people, and stay active. You will find different groups of activities for all tastes, such as book clubs, coffee clubs, petanque club, women’s clubs, language exchange groups, and all sorts of social gatherings in this very supportive community of expats.

As a retiree you want to make your dollars last without sparing in lifestyle, Panamá offers that with its low cost of living and real estate when compared to other cosmopolitan cities. For affordable prices, you can choose to live in an ocean-view condo in Panama City, or a beach house in Coronado or Pedasí, where you can take beach walks every day, or if you would like colder weather you can live in the highlands of the country in Boquete, surrounded by lush rainforest.

Healthcare and transportation in Panama are also very affordable. Panama’s healthcare system includes private and public hospitals, some of which are equipped with modern technology and well-trained doctors.

One of the major attractions of Panama for people looking to retire is its “Pensionado Program”, which offers special discounts for people with a pension of at least $1,000 per month, these discounts are applied to airline tickets, medical services, restaurants, mortgages, hotels, cultural activities, and venues, medicines, public services and more.

Last but not less important, Panama is also one of the safest cities in Latin America and uses the dollar along with the Balboa as official currencies, which provides stability.
